5 immediate steps
- Stay calm. Remove your pet from whatever they ate.
- Identify what they ate. Save packaging, take a photo of the substance.
- Estimate the amount and time. How much? When? Be ready to tell the vet.
- Call a poison control line above or your vet — do this BEFORE inducing vomiting.
- Do NOT induce vomiting at home unless specifically told to. Some substances (caustics, sharp objects) cause more damage coming back up.

- Your pet's species, breed, age and weight
- What they ate (brand name if known)
- Approximate amount
- How long ago
- Any symptoms you're seeing
